![]() Droids isn’t just an animated series that caters to a younger crowd, it’s actually a gateway drug that initiated its audience into the upper echelons of the Star Wars expanded universe. The fingerprints of this obscure Saturday morning cartoon can be seen in just about everything that followed it, from the novels to the Dark Horse comics, to the prequels and The Force Awakens. Droids happens to be an influential relic from the younger days of a rapidly growing multimedia franchise that didn’t know what to do with itself. Taking into account that the show has basically been disowned, in part because it’s incredibly dated, this cartoon about two droids wandering around desert planets getting into trouble isn’t likely to get the acclaim it deserves anytime soon. Droids is a tragically forgotten piece of Star Wars culture. ![]()
